eCaerus Sustainable Solutions
eCaerus is a team of professionals with extensive experience and expertise in LEED® projects and green building technology. These eCaerus professionals regularly play integral roles in projects involving the LEED certification process. eCaerus is a member of the USGBC, however the group and this website are not official functions of, and not sanctioned by, the USGBC.
Brian Sutton, LEED® AP
LEED AP and vice president of operations oversees every project. His 25 plus years of hands on construction and project management experience bring a unique factor to the group. This understanding of schedule, budget and construction help keep team members focused and on track. A master carpenter by trade, Brian is familiar with all aspects of building and renovating in both the commercial and residential sectors. His sustainable practice began in the 1990's. Brian is certified by the Associated General Contractors of New York to deliver LEED workshops and trainings, and is instrumental with the development of new or private workshops. He is on the Board of Directors for the USGBC NY Upstate Chapter and steering committee for the Berkshire Branch.
Bill Bean, LEED® AP
Bill is a strategic planning expert with over 30 years of business and planning experience. He spent 20 years in the building materials industry with International Paper Company and Trus Joist Corp. (now iLevel by Weyerhaeuser). If you have a "Green" business or idea for a business he can quickly facilitate the development of a professional plan that you can confidently present to your own team, bankers, board members or others. Bill has a BBA, and an MS (Wood Technology) combined with LEED AP and NAHB CGP designations and has Professional certifications in Executive Coaching and Career Coaching. Stephen C. Beck, LEED® AP
Director Science and Technology, Director Commissioning Services Group, LeChase Construction Services LLC - Stephen Beck plays a key role at LeChase working directly with the project management teams and clients, focusing on cleanrooms, sustainable construction, commissioning and process systems. A 13-year veteran of LeChase and Director of the Project Solutions and Commissioning Services Groups, Mr. Beck and his team are responsible for the turnkey delivery of cleanrooms and contamination controlled facilities, internal and outsourced commissioning services and support for all sustainable and/or LEED® certified projects. Mr. Beck is the LeChase "champion" for sustainable construction and sustainable company operations.
Mr. Beck is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering Technology.

Mr. Beck has authored and presented several papers and articles on contamination control and cleanrooms, and was a contributing author of McGraw-Hill's Semiconductor Manufacturing Handbook . He is a LEED Accredited Professional, and Indoor Air Quality Certified Professional, a member of ASHRAE, the Design Build Institute of America and the Lean Construction Institute. He is a senior member of the Institute of Environmental Science and Testing and serves on Working Group Nano 200 and served as a member of the ASHRAE, "Advanced Indoor Air Quality Task Force" which is preparing new guidelines for the USEPA.
Mr. Beck is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Upstate Chapter of USGBC and serves as the Chapter's Training Coordinator. He serves as an Education Provider Reviewer for USGBC. He has presented several papers on the Contractor's role and perspective in Sustainable Buildings and regularly teaches seminars on sustainable construction and guest lectures at local area colleges and universities.
Dana Bixby, AIA
Dana Bixby, AIA, first acquired expertise in the design of passive solar homes when she started her practice in the early 1980's. She has been located in West Stockbridge, MA since 1989. Prior to that she was located in New York City and London . She has completed an extensive number of varied projects including nursing homes, senior retirement housing, work for non-profit organizations in the Berkshires, sound recording studioes, historic restorations, and theater renovations. Current LEED projects include a Montessori School in Lenox , MA and the Topia Arts Center in Adams , MA . Her research interests include a focus on sustainability through cultural and social integrity in architecture. Her graduate degree in architecture is from the University of London ; her undergraduate degree is from Penn State University .
She holds architecture licenses in MA and NY and is NCARB certified. She is on the boards of IS 183 art school of the Berkshires and the Berkshire Stonewall Community Coalition. She is Chairperson of the West Stockbridge Planning Board.
Oliver S. Holmes, PE, LEED® AP
Oliver is a licensed professional mechanical engineer and a LEED accredited professional. He was previously Director of Facilities Planning and Design at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for over nineteen years. He has served as Director of Facilities Planning and Construction at Williams College and also as Commissioner of Public Works for the Town of Bethlehem. He was responsible for an energy and utilities program at Rensselaer that reduced annual electric use by over 6 million kwh/year and reduced water consumption by over 120 million gallons/year. He has been involved in high performance building design for numerous campus buildings. Oliver is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He teaches courses in building systems and sustainable design. He received a BS in Mathematics from SUNY Oneonta and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Syracuse University.
Katelyn Paulson, Administrative Assistant
Katelyn graduated from Champlain College in the Spring of 2007 with a BA in Business. In her short time after graduation, Katelyn gained valuable experience within the non-profit sector including work within Human Resources and Development/Fundraising. Fueled by a personal interest in sustainable living, she has turned her focus to green building and sustainable design. Katelyn is an active member of the local Berkshire Branch of the USGBC and is currently studying to obtain the Green Associates certificate through the USGBC.
Michael Stiller, IESNA, Practicing Affiliate IALD, LEED® AP
Michael Stiller (www.MichaelStiller.com) brings the expertise gleaned from more than 20 years of architectural and theatrical lighting design work to eCaerus . In 1998, Michael founded his firm, where he directs a flexible workforce of designers and programmers that includes some of the industry's most talented and respected names. Prior to this, and dating back to 1984, Michael maintained a private theatrical lighting and projection design practice in New York City. Throughout, Michael's career has spanned the worlds of architectural design, themed entertainment, theatrical production, television, and motion pictures; with specialties that include complex control systems, automated lighting, LED lighting, and convergence technologies. Michael's recent projects include: The Motorola Innovation Center, a twenty thousand square foot, visitors' center at Motorola's corporate headquarters, and the opening ceremony lighting treatments for the new New York Times Building, designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano. While continuing to broaden the scope of his lighting designs within the various creative disciplines, Michael enjoys engaging with the community as a mentor and has led lighting workshops abroad, been a guest lecturer at the Pratt Institute and for SUNY Ulster's Sustainable Building Advisors Program, and is currently an adjunct faculty member in FIT's master's degree program in exhibit design.
Kyle E. Thomas, P.E., LEED® AP
Kyle Thomas is a licensed environmental engineer in the States of New York and Massachusetts and a LEED® Accredited Professional. Following tenures totaling over 15 years at two prominent Central New York consulting engineering firms, he founded Natural Systems Engineering (NSE) in 2007. Through NSE, he has been active in marketing engineering and scientific services to public sector clients involved in watershed conservation, water quality protection, and LEED® green build projects. He contributes engineering and technical support for the Sustainable Sites credits under LEED® for eCaerus. He has Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry (ESF) in Natural Resources Management and Environmental Engineering, respectively, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at ESF. His research involves mathematical modeling of nonpoint source pollution, in support of engineering of stormwater best management practices (BMPs) and green stormwater infrastructure.
